I wanted to re-post this series of photos from a year and a half ago. What I wrote then:
Thanks to a recent discussion on Ontroads, I’ve uploaded some pictures of the soon to be renovated service on eastbound 401 at Ingersoll. These service centres with their unique design have been along the 401 since the 1960s, but unfortunately their days are numbered now as part of an expansion and redevelopment plan by the Ontario Government.
While I certainly hope the new facilities will offer lots of new amenities and have nice new facilities, I’ll always have a soft spot for these quirky, unique old service centres.
That particular service centre, located on the eastbound 401 between Ingersoll and Woodstock, was closed in March 2010 and has been completely demolished. A new facility is rising in its place and should be open by this summer.
