Reassurance sign along west bound 401. Given the proximity of the Hwy 403 interchange and traffic coming in there it makes some sense, but it is still a rather excessive warning.

I wanted to re-post this series of photos from a year and a half ago. What I wrote then:

Thanks to a recent discussion on Ontroads, I’ve uploaded some pictures of the soon to be renovated service on eastbound 401 at Ingersoll. These service centres with their unique design have been along the 401 since the 1960s, but unfortunately their days are numbered now as part of an expansion and redevelopment plan by the Ontario Government.

While I certainly hope the new facilities will offer lots of new amenities and have nice new facilities, I’ll always have a soft spot for these quirky, unique old service centres.

That particular service centre, located on the eastbound 401 between Ingersoll and Woodstock, was closed in March 2010 and has been completely demolished. A new facility is rising in its place and should be open by this summer.

A quick fix for a route redesignation? Oxford County took the cheapest way out when they needed to change this sign for former Highway 2. thankfully this sign, which was on former Highway 53 approaching 2 at Eastwood, has been replaced by a properly designed one.

Finishing up our Highway 401 triple feature today- A shot looking westbound between Woodstock and Ingersoll. With some of the on-highway service centres being closed for renovations, MTO have erected signs warning drivers of the restrictions on fuel and service availability.

Sorry for the lack of updates, real life’s been taking up far too much of my time.

Now that the winter weather’s arrived, here’s highway 19 looking north from Folden’s Line, near Ingersoll. This was taken before it was reconstructed a few years ago.
